When is the best time to buy a home?

There is no best time to buy a home. Your needs and wants will dictate the best time for you.

However, there are market trends that may assist you in selecting the right time to buy and sell. The real estate market has trend patterns. From the end of January till May is what is called the Spring market. This is, traditionally, the most active market period of the year. Purchases take place in this period with closing times of Spring or early Summer.

The summer months are usually a bit slower due to Summer Break, work holidays, family outings, and other activities. This doesn’t mean that the real estate market is dead. It just slows down.

The Fall market is from the end of September to the end of November. Children are back in school so parents have some time to look at a home purchase. By the time December comes around, most people are looking towards Christmas and the New Year.

These are only guidelines to market activity. The best time to buy a property is when you think it is best.
